Tips for Easing Your Child’s Fear of Nebulizers

What is a nebulizer?

A nebulizer is a battery-powered or electric machine can turn liquid asthma medicine into a fine mist, which is then inhaled into the lungs. This type of machine is often used with young kids who are having difficulties breathing particularly due to asthma. Nebulizers are often used for kids because inhaling any type of medicine requires much effort from the child. And since liquid asthma medications cannot be used with aromatherapy diffusers electric, a nebulizer is necessary.

How is a nebulizer used?

In general, nebulizers are equipped with a face mask or a mouthpiece. A child should wear the mask and then breathe normally until all the medicine is inhaled, which normally lasts between 5 and 10 minutes.

The problem, however, is that most kids hate the idea of just staying put while waiting for the process to finish. As a parent, you can do something to help your child be more cooperative when doing the inhalation.

Here's what you should do:

1. Make inhalation part of your kid's daily routine. Do it at the same time of the day so your child will get used to it more easily.

2. Role-play with your child. Make it like a game by saying that it's a pilot mask, for instance. It would also help if you could find a mask that's shaped like a dragon or something.

3. Let your child decorate the nebulizer machine as he or she wants. Your child may put some stickers on it, too! This will make the machine more fun to look at, which your child will love, for sure!

4. If possible, have your child sit on a high chair. This way, he can be strapped in order to prevent him from moving away from the machine. If it still doesn't work, you may let him sit on your lap instead, just so you may control his movements, and also to make him feel safe and secure.

5. Keep your child from getting bored while he sits there waiting for the medicine to disappear. You may try reading books to him, or singing songs perhaps. You may also let him hold his favorite toy during the process.

6. Watch a movie together! This could be a great bonding time for you and your child! Watching movies will take his attention away from the nebulizer, so he won't even know it's finished.
7. Don't forget to praise him for a job well done!

When it comes to the health of your kids, you'll surely do everything to make sure he's healthy and that all his needs are met. And if you want your child's bedroom to be comfortable and relaxing, using an aromatherapy nebulizing diffuser would help!
